God has made permanent marriage a priority over temporary marriage. However, the legitimacy of temporary marriage is due to its role in preventing some psychological and social disorders. This issue was investigated with the aim of evaluating its positive and negative roles in psychological well-being by finding out its components from Riff and Seligman's research and considering the indigenous characteristics of Iranian society. Using the descriptive-analytical method and library studies, relying on the interpretation of verse 24 of Surah al-Nisa' and the narrations from the Infallibles (a.s.) and tracing temporary marriage in the Five Rulings, it was revealed that temporary marriage plays a positive role in psychological well-being by promoting spirituality, satisfaction, happiness, personal growth, positive relationship with others and self-acceptance. However, temporary marriage plays a negative role in psychological well-being by creating psychological problems and threats to the family system.
