Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd is one of the Quranic theorists with new and critical ideas. Like some other like-minded people, he considers the Quran to be a time-dependent text and has conducted research in various fields, including naskh, in order to prove his point of view. An examination of Abu Zayd's study course reveals that he has experienced a serious change from considering the Quran as a written discourse (the period in which he believed in the occurrence of naskh in the Quran) to considering it a spoken discourse (the period in which he didn’t believe in the occurrence of naskh in the Quran). He accepts the occurrence of naskh during the textual stage as it could facilitate the addressees’ affairs, and based on this, he considers naskh as a proof of the interaction of the Quran with the culture of the time. However, in the period when he considered the Quran as a spoken discourse, he believes considering the Quran as a spoken discourse makes it possible to select the contradictory verses according to the conditions of the time, breaching his previous assumption and leveling criticism against having a textual view of Quran. Thus, what he has deduced from the issue of naskh is the historicity of the Quran in both stages. In this article, which has been authored using the descriptive-analytical method, while presenting Abu Zayd's point of view, his arguments have been criticized and examined. Despite the change in approach, in both stages, one can see a relationship between his view on naskh and the historicity of the Quran, and at the same time criticize his point of view.
