Comparative Analysis of the Views of the Two Sects of Exegetes Regarding the Knowledge of the Unseen of the Prophets al-Mujtabá and al-Murtadhá in Qur’anic Verses 3:179 and 72:26-27

Abstract:   (7 Views)
One of the contentious issues in the Holy Qur’an is the subject of the “knowledge of the unseen” (ʿilm al-ghayb), which is attributed to chosen and favored prophets in verse 179 of Surah Al-Imran and verses 26–27 of Surah Al-Jinn. It is necessary to study this topic in order to clarify the limits and scope of the unseen and to analyze the diverse interpretations of exegetes from both Sunni and Shia traditions regarding this matter. The present article aims to provide a clear and accurate understanding of the knowledge of the unseen possessed by the Prophets al-Mujtaba and al-Murtadhá. This research employs an analytical-descriptive method to explain, compare, and analyze the views of prominent exegetes from both sects on these two sets of verses. The findings indicate that commentators have identified several categories of unseen knowledge in these verses, including “personal conditions of people,” “resurrection,” “prophethood,” “contingent matters according to God’s wisdom,” and “all unseen matters.” The prominent conclusion of the study reveals that although each category constitutes a type of unseen knowledge, verse 179 of Surah Al-Imran primarily discusses the “means of attaining knowledge of the unseen,” namely the “sending of messengers” within the realm of prophetic revelation, whereas verses 26–27 of Surah Al-Jinn focus on defining the “scope of knowledge of the unseen,” i.e., “disclosure of all unseen matters (except those exclusive to God).”
