A Comparative Study of the Interpretation of Jadd (جَد) in the Verse "وَ أَنَّهُ تَعالی جَدُّ رَبِّنا" in Lexical and Explanatory Sources with Historical Memories
Mohammad Ali Mahdavi Rad , Hossein Shojaie1
Abstract:   (993 Views)
Understanding many verses of the Holy Qurʾan depends on understanding the historical context of the era of revelation and understanding the beliefs of the audience of the Qurʾan in that era. It goes without saying that a reliable historical report that speaks about the historical characteristics of that era is not available today; however, the way to understand the situation of that era is not closed. The physical and cultural monuments left from that era have a good capacity to understand many issues and problems of that era. With the help of these memories, it is possible to clarify many topics and concepts, the understanding of which is dependent on the understanding of the atmosphere of the revelation of the Qurʾan, thus helping to better understand many concepts and topics of the Qurʾan. Among the historical monuments, the inscriptions are one of the valuable sources that can be used to better understand the historical situation of the historical and ambiguous concepts of the Qurʾan. The upcoming article looks at this use of inscriptions and intends to reinterpret the expression jadd in the third verse of Surah Jin. The method of this research is historical and in it, by collecting the inscriptions related to the intended concept and reading them, an effort is made to obtain the meaning of this word in the era of revelation of the Qurʾan. The investigation carried out in this research shows that the word jadd despite the dictionary and jurisprudential attitude of commentators and linguists, based on the evidence of inscriptions left in northern Arabia, is the name of a special science that refers to a special type of gods.
