Among the tools for understanding and explaining hadiths, the verses of the Qur’an are considered the oldest and most appropriate texts, and hadith scholars and jurists have frequently referred to the Qur’anic verses in understanding the hadiths. However, their method of utilizing Qur’anic verses has been scattered, and until now, no comprehensive text has been written specifically on this topic. This article uses descriptive and analytical methods to examine the method of understanding hadiths in the light of the Qur’an, focusing on the book Ṣāfī fī Sharḥ al-Kāfī by Mulla Khalil Qazvini. In other words, this research aims to answer the question of how Mulla Khalil Qazvini utilized Qur’anic verses in understanding and interpreting the hadiths of al-Kāfī. The findings of the research indicate that he applied the principles, rules, and tools used by commentators in understanding and interpreting Qur’anic verses to the hadiths. Among the tools he used in the understanding and explanation of hadiths, Qur’anic verses held a special place. The author's method of understanding the hadiths of al-Kāfī through the reference to Qur’anic verses has been explored under various headings such as: uncovering meaning through linguistic discussions, apparent relationships between hadiths and the Qur’an, finding examples, correcting textual errors in the hadiths, the principle of context, obvious and rational knowledge, and scientific discussions.
